What it takes to become a home-based travel agent
Deciding to become a home-based travel agent is less about having a travel background and more about mindset. The people who do well tend to be organised self-starters who enjoy helping others, are comfortable working independently, and are willing to put in consistent effort while a customer base builds. You do not need a shopfront or a team; you need a quiet space to work, a professional set-up and the discipline to treat it as a real business rather than a hobby. Everything technical, from booking systems to supplier access, is provided so you can focus on selling and serving customers well.
How membership supports you
Membership is designed to remove the barriers that stop capable people going independent. You get a professional website, itinerary and booking software, an AI marketing assistant and social media manager, plus access to a broad choice of approved suppliers and our in-house bedbank. Package Travel Regulations (PTR) compliance is handled through the Group's arrangements, and customer money is protected in a Trust Account with Protected Trust Services (PTS), so your clients can book with confidence. Structured training takes you from the fundamentals to specialist selling, and a dedicated support team is on hand when a booking, supplier or system question comes up.
The commercials are transparent. There is a one-off joining fee of £1,750 and a monthly fee of £35, a 1.3% transaction fee on card payments, and no franchise fee. In return you keep up to 85% of your eligible commission, with the Group retaining 15% to fund the platform and support around you. Commission varies by supplier and is not guaranteed, and this is self-employment rather than salaried employment, so your results reflect the hours and effort you invest.
Many people begin part-time alongside existing employment, building foundations and confidence before going full-time. That gradual path works well because it lets you learn the tools, establish your niche and grow your pipeline at a sustainable pace. Working from home offers genuine flexibility, but it rewards structure: set working hours, a dedicated space and steady marketing turn effort into repeat business. If that sounds like the way you want to work, becoming a home-based travel agent could be the independent business you have been looking for.
