Host agency model
Travel agent host agency in the UK
Keep your independence while trading under established compliance, supplier and protection arrangements.
Understanding a travel agent host agency in the UK
If you have researched starting a travel business, you will have come across the term host agency. A travel agent host agency in the UK provides the compliance framework, supplier relationships and systems that let an independent agent trade professionally without building all of that alone. Travel Business Partners operates on this principle, giving you support while you remain your own business.
Crucially, this is not a franchise. You do not buy into a brand or pay a franchise fee. You run a standalone self-employed travel business and sell under the Group's Package Travel Regulations (PTR) arrangements. The guide on host agency versus franchise, linked below, explains the distinction clearly.
What a host arrangement provides
The value of a host arrangement is that it handles the heavy, technical parts of running a travel business:
- PTR compliance through the Group's arrangements
- Financial protection via a Trust Account with Protected Trust Services (PTS)
- Access to a broad choice of approved global suppliers
- Booking and itinerary software
- A professional website in your own name
- An AI marketing assistant and social media manager that write and schedule your posts
- An in-house bedbank and dedicated support
Setting up your own PTR compliance, supplier accounts and protection independently would be costly and time-consuming. A host arrangement lets you begin trading far sooner.
Compliance and protection explained
Two things matter enormously in UK travel: how holidays are sold under the Package Travel Regulations, and how customer money is protected. Under this model, you sell within the Group's PTR arrangements, and customer payments are held in a Trust Account with PTS rather than in your own account. The guides on ATOL and on the Package Travel Regulations, linked below, go into more depth on why this matters.
The commercial terms
The costs are a one-off joining fee of £1,750 and £35 per month, plus a 1.3% card transaction fee on card payments. There is no franchise fee. You keep up to 85% of eligible commission, with the Group retaining 15%. Commission varies by supplier and is not guaranteed, so your earnings reflect your bookings and effort. See the commission and earnings page for the detail.
Host agency versus going it alone
Deciding between a host arrangement and full independence comes down to what you want to build and manage:
- A host arrangement gives you compliance, suppliers and systems from day one
- Full independence means arranging all of that yourself
- Both leave you self-employed and responsible for your own results
For most people starting out, the support of a host arrangement makes the venture practical rather than overwhelming.

Questions worth asking any host
Before committing to any travel agent host agency in the UK, it pays to interrogate the arrangement carefully. Sensible questions include how commission is split and who retains what, exactly how customer money is protected, what happens to your customer relationships if you ever leave, and what support is genuinely available when a booking becomes complicated. You should also be clear on the full cost, including any monthly and transaction fees, so there are no surprises. With this model the answers are stated plainly: an 85% share of eligible commission to you, protection through a Trust Account with PTS, your own business name and branding, and dedicated support. Knowing the answers in advance lets you commit with confidence rather than crossing your fingers.
If a travel agent host agency in the UK sounds like the right foundation, explore the detail before committing. The how it works page sets out the journey, the packages page shows what is included, and the why us page explains how the Group supports independent members. Read the guides below on the host versus franchise question and on compliance, so you understand exactly what you are joining and why the model exists.
